St. Cloud council to decide whether to allow pet pigs in city

Looie, a pet pot-bellied pig, retains an uncertain status in St. Cloud, where it’s still illegal to keep swine in a residential area.

Looie’s owners, Cindy and Stephanie Boettcher, had asked the council to change the ordinance, says the St. Cloud Times. Looie had escaped from their home a couple of times, leading to impoundment and fines. But they say Looie is a pet, not a farm animal, and should be allowed to stay.

Council members are thinking about it, and say they’ll look at different options for revising the ordinance.

Some city residents signed a petition and wrote letters to the council, apparently saying that — like Wilbur in “Charlotte’s Web” — Looie is “Some Pig.”
