Today is “Defending the Blue Line” Day in Minnesota, according to a declaration by Gov. Mark Dayton. Sounds like it might be a promo for a WWII movie, but it’s to honor a nonprofit group that provides hockey equipment for kids in military families.

The group says it tries to keep hockey alive for the children of military parents by “providing free equipment for military kids, hockey camps, special events, and financial assistance for registration fees and other costs associated with hockey.”

It was started by members of the National Guard.

The group will be at the Capitol today from 3 to 5 p.m.
