Minnesota’s Independence Party leaders have selected Mark Jenkins to fill in as interim chairman for the next two months, filling out the term of Jack Uldrich, who resigned.

Jenkins will fill the slot for two months and then plans to run for the two-year position at the April 30 IP state convention in Lakeville.

Last November, Jenkins ran for state Senate in District 55 — Maplewood, North St. Paul and Oakdale — and got about 7 percent of the vote in an election won by incumbent DFLer Chuck Wiger.

Uldrich, a futurist and author, has a new book coming out and is busy with his work schedule, the party said.

Also this weekend, the DFL Party elected Ken Martin as its chair. When Republicans in Minnesota meet April 16 to pick a chair, incumbent Tony Sutton is expected to be re-elected to a second term.
