DFL primary today in state Senate District 66

Three DFL candidates are facing off in a primary election today for the state Senate seat in District 66 — which includes a northern chunk of St. Paul and part of Falcon Heights.

 Candidates are:

  • State Rep. John Lesch
  • Former state Rep. Mary Jo McGuire
  • Attorney Steve Marchese

The winner will face GOP candidate Greg Copeland in the April 12 special election, but it’s  a traditionally strong DFL district, so today’s election is likely to determine the eventual new senator.

The seat opened up when Sen. Ellen Anderson was appointed chair of the Public Utilities Commission.
