The Minnesota Historical Society has named Stephen Elliott as its new director and CEO.

He succeeds interim director Michael Fox, who’s been filling in since the January retirement of Nina Archabal. Fox will stay on the staff until he retires in May.

Elliott comes to the MHS from serving as president and chief executive officer of the New York State Historical Association and the Farmers’ Museum in Cooperstown, N.Y.

Before that, he was executive director of the First Freedom Center in Richmond, Va., and also held many positions at the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation.
