Top elected state officials visited Rochester this morning to mark IBM’s 100th birthday.

Gov. Mark Dayton and Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken took part in the program at the company’s IBM on Display centennial event. The company has thousands of employees at its Rochester facility.

The Rochester Post-Bulletin reports that Klobuchar told the officials, IBM executives and others gathered at the plant: “We need to be a country that makes things again, not just churn money on Wall Street,”

And Franken joked that England is having a royal wedding to coincide with the IBM Rochester event, the paper said. He also called for for more emphasis on science and math learning, the paper said.
