Forty years ago — 1971 — as the women’s movement was growing on the national stage, a state chapter of the National Organization for Women was formed in Minnesota.

Minnesota NOW will celebrate its anniversary Saturday at its annual state conference in Chaska.

Featured at the conference — called “Celebrating 40 Years and Moving Equality Forward” — will be a welcome address by Sen. Al Franken.

Congressman Tim Walz is the afternoon speaker. The group says Walz has been a dues-paying member of Minnesota NOW since his daughter was born in 2001.

The conference runs from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Oak Ridge Conference Center in Chaska, with speakers, panels and awards. The public is welcome; a $45 registration fee includes lunch.
