The PRISM social service agency in Golden Valley is getting $100,000 from Allianz Life, to be used to buy a van and trip-routing software.

They say it will allow the group to offer an addition 6,850 rides to home-bound seniors each year.

Allianz notes that availability of transportation helps older folks live independently at home for longer periods, which saves the government lots of money in long-term care. But cuts to many agencies mean fewer transportation programs — up to 150,000 fewer rides for seniors over the past few years — are available.
