Sirens sound, but it’s only tornado awareness practice

Many hearts were a-twitter — and many Twitter-ers were tweeting — when tornado sirens wailed across the region at 1:45 p.m. today.

It wasn’t the first Wednesday and it wasn’t 1 p.m., so it must be trouble, many feared.

But police departments around the area — including the weary, but kind dispatcher at our local White Bear Lake HQ — reassured callers: It’s just a test.

This is Tornado Awareness Day, and sirens were scheduled to blow at 1:45 p.m. and again at 6:55 p.m.

So make an emergency plan, prepare emergency kits and practice an emergency plan. But you don’t have to call the cops.

Completely unnecessary. Once a month isn’t enough?
