Gov. Mark Dayton and Lt. Gov. Yvonne Prettner Solon will both try to catch some fish in Grand Rapids Saturday morning at the Governor’s Fishing Opener.

They’ll fish in separate boats on Pokegama Lake, each with a guide. Maybe it’s like the deal where the president and the vice president can’t fly in the same plane.

They’ll both get to Grand Rapids today for events surrounding the opener.

Dayton will  lay a wreath at the Itasca County Law Enforcement Memorial at 3:15 p.m.; then he and Prettner Solon will have dinner at a Grand Rapids community picnic.

Prettner Solon will tour the UPM-Blandin Paper facilities and visit a middle school this afternoon before the picnic.

The governor plans to fish a bit at 12:01 a.m., just to say he did. Then he’ll sleep a bit before going to a bipartisan Saturday opener send-off ceremony at 7:45 a.m. at Zorbaz on Pokegama Lake with House Speaker Kurt Zellers, Sen. Al Franken and Prettner Solon.
