St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman is announcing today that the city has received a $1 million grant from the EPA to help those along the Central Corridor rail line test their property for contaminants and environmental hazards before new development begins.

The grant comes from the EPA’s Brownfield Program, and will help 10 property owners test buildings, soil and groundwater to identify levels of contamination. Depending on the results, the property owners can then go ahead with development or begin site clean up.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar is scheduled to join the mayor for the 9:30 a.m. announcement at the former Midway Chevrolet site, at University and Hamline Avenues.
