Capitol security get ready to ‘clear’ the building

In one of those little ominous developments, Capitol security was set to clear “the people’s house’’ at 5 p.m. Pols, their staffers and accredited media will be allowed to stay.

Typically, the Capitol closing is a relatively informal matter. As 5 o’clock approached, a smattering of protesters still were in the building, supporting the governor in the budget shutdown.

By rule, the Capitol would have to be re-opened if there were to be any legislative committee meetings or floor sessions. Those events always are to be open to the public.
