Republican leaders say that Gov. Mark Dayton is meeting legislators in his office this morning to talk about education, and then House and Senate GOP leadership will meet with the governor at 5 p.m. — location just changed to Dayton’s office, from the previously announced meeting at the Governor’s Mansion — to discuss the budget.
This comes on the heels of a 90-minute meeting Friday between the two sides, which brought some optimism but no resolution. They’re still $1.8 billion apart on the budget.
The stakes are high: a state shutdown will occur July 1, when the new biennium starts, unless they figure out a solution.
