It’s been a tough few years — budget problems, pension concerns and battles with the Legislature over funding — but Duluth Mayor Don Ness wants to do it again.
He launched his re-election campaign Wednesday with receptions at noon and after work.
He was elected to a first term in 2007, after eight years on the City Council. He was first elected to the council in 1999 at age 25, just two years after graduating from the University of Minnesota-Duluth with a business degree. He worked for then-Congressman Jim Oberstar after college.
His philosophy as mayor, according to the city website:
“As Mayor, my job is to remove barriers, fix problems, and to support those leaders who are working to make Duluth a great city. We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us, but we’re making important progress. I’m proud of the efforts of city staff, who are committed to providing excellent service to the residents of Duluth.”
No one else has announced a challenge to him, yet, the Duluth paper says, but filing doesn’t begin until July 5.
