Flags at half-staff Tuesday for Linda Scheid memorial

Flags around the state will be lowered to half-staff Tuesday, in honor of state Sen. Linda Scheid, who died of cancer June 15.

Gov. Mark Dayton ordered the flag action and said he will attend a memorial for Scheid Tuesday afternoon in Brooklyn Park.

Noted Dayton:

Senator Scheid was a leader on many issues, including consumer protection, education equity, campaign finance reform, organ donation, tax fairness, business regulatory reform, economic development, and health care reform — most notably ensuring that oral chemotherapy drugs are affordable and accessible. Her commitment to public service was demonstrated throughout her life, from her service as a Peace Corps volunteer, community advocate, parks and recreation worker, substitute teacher and lawmaker.

The memorial, from 4 to 8 p.m., is at the Brooklyn Park Community Activity Center.

In lieu of flowers, a scholarship has been set up in Scheid’s name at Brooklyn Center High School. Donations can be made out to BCHS/Linda Scheid Scholarship Fund and mailed to:
