Mark Winson, who pingponged back and forth as Duluth’s city administrator in recent years, is heading south to take a job in New Mexico.
Winson had worked for the city’s previous mayor, Herb Bergson, then was unceremoniously fired in 2005, only to be hired back by new Mayor Don Ness in early 2009.
But after only a few months back in city hall, Winson left again, returning to what had been his job between city stints: vice president of finance and administration at Lake Superior College.
Now, the Duluth News Tribune reports, Winson is leaving the college to take a job as assistant city manager for Las Cruces, N.M., population 86,000.
He told the paper that the new job is a good fit for someone with his experience working with finances, information technology and human resources. And it doesn’t hurt that it’s warmer there.
The story says that, according to the Las Cruces Sun-News, the city’s 2010-11 budget designates a salary of $119,487 for the assistant city manager.
