Court rulings add legal services, licensing and some school funding to essential state services

Rulings released today by Judge Kathleen Gearin approved recommendations of Judge Kathleen Blatz, who’s acting as the special master in considering appeals on the state’s shutdown.

One ruling allows funding for a training program for the blind and for continuation of emergency general assistance, emergency supplemental aid and payments for short-term shelter and utility needs, as requested by Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services.

Another ruling by Gearin allows some school funding and the rehiring of licensing staff so agencies can hire staff and volunteers.

This order, though, specifically denies a request from Arc Minnesota to continue funding for its housing access services.
