Gov. Mark Dayton is driving to St. Cloud this morning for a 10 a.m. forum on special education, but he’s also planning to use it as a kick-off for a public relations blitz to convince Minnesotans that compromise is needed to resolve the budget crisis and end the state shutdown.
The special education roundtable is at St. Cloud Apollo High School, where he’ll talk with students, teachers and school administrators about the impact of the proposed GOP budget cuts.
On Monday, Dayton announced a series of visits around the state to push his message that Republican legislators must meet him part-way in the struggle of wills and principles that has shut down many state services and put tens of thousands out of work.
The governor will be back in St. Paul by 4 p.m. for an emergency meeting of the state Executive Council to consider extending the state of emergency declared after extensive storm damage in the state on July 1.
