Dome inflation test goes well; first event to be Aug. 20

A test of the Metrodome’s new roof went well this morning, as crew used 20 fans to inflate the dome in under an hour.

Now technicians will search for any leaks and double-check clamps and such, said Bill Lester, executive director of the Sports Facilities Commission, which operates the dome.

He said the engineers plan to apply to the city of Minneapolis (not the state, thankfully) for a certificate of occupancy by Aug. 1.

That certificate will take some time to process, he said, so the first event in the newly reinflated dome is scheduled to be an open house on Aug. 20. Details will be released later, he said. They won’t try to market the dome for other events before that, he said.

The first Vikings preseason game in the dome is scheduled for Aug. 27, against the Dallas Cowboys. That is, if there is a preseason.
