Rochester’s Mayo Clinic gets a very, very fine bill of health in the latest U.S. News rating of hospitals around the country.

Mayo is one of only 17 out of 5,000 hospitals to make the magazine’s honor roll, which the magazine says is “reserved for medical centers that demonstrate unusually high expertise across multiple specialties, scoring at or near the top in at least six of 16 specialties.”

Mayo is in the top tier in 15 of the 16 different specialties.

Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore was at the top of the honor roll, with 30 points; Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston was second with 29 points and Mayo was third with 28.

The story says this about Mayo:

With especially strong scores in 15 specialties, Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, was named once again to the Best Hospitals Honor Roll. Mayo Clinic is ranked nationally in 16 adult and 10 pediatric specialties. This hospital is a 1,302-bed general medical and surgical facility with 62,400 annual admissions, according to the latest data. It performed 29,883 annual inpatient and 21,035 outpatient surgeries. Its emergency room had 79,542 visits. Mayo Clinic is a teaching hospital.
