Special legislative elections set for Oct. 18 in Minneapolis and Brooklyn Park

Gov. Mark Dayton has scheduled two special elections for state Senate seats in Minneapolis and Brooklyn Park for Oct. 18.

Minneapolis voters in Senate District 61 will elect a replacement for DFL Sen. Linda Berglin, who will resign Aug. 15. She is taking a new job as a health care manager in Hennepin County.

There also will be an election in Brooklyn Park’s Senate District 46 to fill the seat held by DFL Sen. Linda Scheid, who died last month after battling cancer.
