State Rep. Jeff Hayden to run for Berglin’s Senate seat

Just about two hours after Minneapolis DFL state Sen. Linda Berglin announced she was resigning her seat after 39 years in the Legislature, DFL state Rep. Jeff Hayden announced he’ll be seeking her job.

Hayden tweeted and prepared a press release saying he will seek the seat in Senate District 61. He was elected in 2008 to House seat in District 61B.

He said in the release:

“Over the last few years I have been honored to work with Senator Berglin to combat the home foreclosure crisis, create new jobs, and expand access to quality, affordable health care access. We have made great strides, but huge challenges remain.”

Gov. Mark Dayton has not yet announced when a special election will be held for Berglin’s seat. She retires Aug. 15. A special election will also be called to fill the Senate District 46 seat of DFLer Linda Scheid, who died in June.
