State Rep. Jeff Hayden, a DFLer from Minneapolis, says he’s been endorsed by state Sen. Linda Berglin in the special election for her Senate seat.

Berglin is stepping down Aug. 15 after nearly 40 years in the Legislature; she’s been hired as a health policy manager in Hennepin County.

In a statement from Hayden’s campaign, Berglin says:

“Jeff has become a respected progressive voice and effective advocate for the people of Minneapolis during his time as a State Representative. He has worked tirelessly in support of fair budget policies, affordable housing, health care reform, and education. I know Jeff would continue to be an advocate in the State Senate for the vulnerable and those without a voice.”

A primary election will be held Sept. 13 for the six DFL candidates who’ve filed for the seat:

  • Jeff Hayden
  • Sadik Warfa
  • Kristian Heuer
  • Elsa Batica
  • Paulette Will
  • Kyle Wilson

The winner will face these candidates in the Oct. 18 special general election:

  • Bruce A. Lundeen, Republican
  • Farheen Hakeem, Green
  • Matt Brillhart, Independence.
