Walz staffer is new Met Council communications director

The Metropolitan Council’s new communications director is Meredith Salsbery, who has been the deputy chief of staff for U.S. Rep. Tim Walz, the Democrat representing Minnesota’s 1st District in southern Minnesota.

She’ll start in the Met Council’s St. Paul office on Aug. 15, with a salary of $106,000 per year, council officials said.

Salsbery has worked for Walz since he won his first election in 2006, said the Rochester Post-Bulletin.

“It has been my privilege to serve the people of southern Minnesota alongside Congressman and Gwen Walz and our dedicated staff and I will miss what has become my second family, very, very much,” Salsbery said.

Marcus Schmit will take over many of Salsbery’s responsibilities in Walz’s office.
