Gov. Mark Dayton has appointed two judges in Hennepin County.

One is Phil Carruthers, who has been a top manager in the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office and was a former DFL politician. He’d been a state representative from Brooklyn Park and was majority leader and then  speaker of the House in the 1990s.

The other new judge is Nancy Brasel, an assistant U.S. attorney in the fraud and corruption division.

They replace Judges Gary R. Larson, who retired, and Tony Leung, who resigned.

Dayton’s office also announced they are looking for candidates to fill another vacancy in Hennepin County, now that Judge Charles Porter has retired.
