Solis to speak here at gathering of young labor activists

U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis will speak Thursday at a gathering of young union organizers and students from around the country who are attending a labor conference in Minneapolis.

The Next Up Young Workers Summit, hosted by the AFL-CIO, runs Thursday through Sunday. The event aims to to reach out to working people under the age of 35, and will focus on “the current economic crisis and pathways to building a just economy as well as the ongoing attacks on workers’ rights from state legislatures,” organizers say.

More than 900 people have registered for the conference at the Minneapolis Hilton in downtown Minneapolis. The agenda shows lots of attention will be given to union organizing.

The event includes a public service element, where participants will create back-to-school care packages for needy children in the Twin Cities.

So the union is at it again. No surprise that Solis will be there. It is almost comical if it weren’t so sad.
