Special elections today for state Senate in Minneapolis and Brooklyn Park

sVoters in Minneapolis and Brooklyn Park — a few of them, anyway — will vote today in two special elections for state Senate.

In Senate District 61 in south Minneapolis, DFL Rep. Jeff Hayden faces Republican candidate Bruce Lundeen, Independence Party candidate Matt Brillhart and Green Party candidate Farheen Hakeem. The seat is open because longtime DFLer Linda Berglin resigned to work for Hennepin County in health care, her legislative specialty.

Voters in Brooklyn Park’s District 46 will choose among DFLer Chris Eaton and Republican Cory Jensen and Independence Party candidate Tom Reynolds. They’re seeking to replace the late DFL Sen. Linda Scheid.

Turnout is expected to be low; polls are open until 8 p.m.
