State Senate to hold two Viking stadium hearings

The Vikings stadium might not get a special session at the Legislature, but Republican legislators say the state Senate will hold two public hearings on the proposed new Vikings stadium.

State Sen. Julianne Ortman, the Republican from Chanhassen who chairs the Senate Taxes Committee, said two informational hearings will be held to look at the stadium issue.

They’ll be:

  • Nov. 29: a joint hearing of the Senate Tax and Local Government and Elections committees.
  • Dec. 6: a joint hearing of the Senate Tax and State Government Innovation & Veterans committees.

Ortman said she’ll be committee chair at both hearings, and that times and locations will be set later.

“We are holding these hearings to invite the public and interested parties to come and testify and offer their views. It is an issue that people are very passionate about. We need to let these legislative committees do the work they’re designed to do. Based on information provided to these committees, we will determine if there is consensus for further action,” Ortman said in a statement.
