Phil Krinkie, president of the Taxpayers League of Minnesota, doesn’t think much of the state Senate plans for two hearings on a proposed Vikings stadium.
In fact, he called them stupid, according to the Star Tribune.
Krinkie, on the Taxpayers League website, has consistently railed against any tax money — including racino or enhanced gambling revenue — going to support a Vikings stadium.
The paper reported that Krinkie, a former state House member, said he doesn’t see the point for the Senate’s two upcoming hearings, Nov. 29 and Dec. 6, that will look at possible locations and funding for a new $1.1 billion stadium that the Vikings want built for them, with two-thirds of the funding coming from the state or local governments.
Said the story:
“All you’re going to get is a bunch of emotional, and questionable, information,” said Krinkie who, as a state legislator, presided as the House Taxes Committee chair when a public subsidy package for a new Minnesota Twins stadium won legislative approval.
“Unless you have a specific proposal on the table that lays out the financing, lays out the operation [of the stadium] and lays out the terms, what’s the point?” said Krinkie, an opponent of public subsidies for stadiums.
“Holding hearings without any specifics on the table — totally useless,” he added.
