Kevin Matzek has been selected as the new permanent chief of staff for the Minnesota Senate GOP Republican caucus.
Matzek had been serving as interim chief since Cullen Sheehan left the job in November to be a lobbyist with the firm of Lockridge Grindal Nauen.
Before stepping up to replace Sheehan, Matzek had been the caucus’s legislative director. He’s also been director of government affairs at Hospitality Minnesota and executive director of the state House Republican Caucus.
New Senate Majority Leader David Senjem said in a statement:
“Kevin is a proven leader and has earned the respect and trust of the members and staff who work with him every day. He is an outstanding individual with extensive legislative and political experience. We are excited to announce his official status as Chief of Staff, and we look forward to his continued contributions to the Senate Republican Caucus and the State of Minnesota.”
