It’s a bit late in the game, but some Shakopee officials want to get into the Vikings stadium scrimmage and will announce a plan today at 4 p.m.

Shakopee Mayor Brad Tabke will join business leaders to propose a stadium at Highway 169 and County Road 101, where there had previously been plans for an ADC telecommunications headquarters.

“The Vikings clearly want a site with options, and the Shakopee site provides that,” Tabke said in a statement. “There is room for a 75,000 seat stadium and 22,000 tailgaters.”

They’ll emphasize the site’s nearby neighbors Valley Fair and Canterbury Park, and the proximity of Mystic Lake casino.

They hope to be an alternative to Minneapolis and Arden Hills in the stadium sweepstakes, but Gov. Mark Dayton has declared a Thursday deadline for proposals, so they can be ready for the legislative session that opens Jan. 24.
