Special elections will be held Tuesday to fill open seats in Senate District 59 and House District 61B.
There hasn’t been all that much publicity about the elections because many feel the “real” elections in the two DFL-heavy districts came last month with the DFL primaries.
In SD 59, DFLer Kari Dziedzic faces Republican Ben Schwanke to take the seat vacated by long-time Sen. Larry Pogemiller, who was appointed by Gov. Mark Dayton in October to be director of the state Office of Higher Education.
In HD 61B, DFLer Susan Allen faces Nathan Blumenshine, an independent who’s listed with the state under the Respect Party. The winner will replace Jeff Hayden, who won a special election in October to move into the state Senate seat that was opened when Linda Berglin resigned.
