Melisa Franzen, an attorney at Target Corp., said today she’ll seek the DFL endorsement to run against Republican incumbent Geoff Michel in Senate District 41.
Franzen, of Edina, is a past president of the Minnesota Hispanic Bar Association. She serves on the board of directors of the Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valleys. At Target, she works in the corporate Employee and Labor Relations group.
She said in a statement:
“Our state is paralyzed by partisan politics. I plan to reintroduce the idea of compromise to advance the collective well-being of our district and State. By working together, we can streamline our State’s policies to find common ground on taxes and regulations to create a stronger business community in Minnesota. We’re putting together a strong team committed to running a campaign that reaches out to every voter in every corner of the district.”
Michel, in his third term, is chair of the Senate’s Jobs and Economic Growth committee. He served briefly as interim majority leader for a while after Sen. Amy Koch resigned the position in December.
