Four file to run for the late state Sen. Kubly’s seat

Four candidates, including two DFLers, have filed to run in the special election to fill the open state Senate District 20 seat vacated when State Sen. Gary Kubly, a DFLer,  died March 2 after suffering from ALS.

A DFL primary will be held March 27 between state Rep. Lyle Koenen and  John Schultz, a DFL activist.

The winner will move on to the April 10 special election to face Leon Greenslit, an independent, and Republican Gregg Kulberg.

The special election winner will serve during the last weeks of the current legislative session and through the end of the year, but then the current District 20 will no longer exist, because of redistricting, says the West Central Tribune.
