Gov. Mark Dayton has named two new district judges in the 10th Judicial District.

Sheridan Hawley will be a new judge in Elk River, replacing Judge Karla Hancock, who has retired.

Stoney Hiljus will have chambers in Mora, replacing Judge Timothy Bloomquist, who also retired.

Hawley’s law practice focuses on child protection and family law matters in sdstrict and appellate courts. She also conducts alternative dispute resolutions in juvenile, civil and family cases. She’s a member of the Lawyers’ Professional Responsibility Board and is secretary of the Board of Mediation Services for Anoka County.

Hiljus is the Coon Rapids city attorney; he’d previously been city administrator and a city council member in Cambridge. He was previously chief deputy Isanti County attorney and the director of legal services for the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe.  He has served on the Anoka County Domestic Violence Task Force, the Minnesota Association of City Attorneys conference planning committee and was recently elected an officer of the Association of City Attorneys.
