When redistricting moved state Sen. Al DeKruif into the same district with fellow Republican state Sen. Julie Rosen, DeKruif thought about moving to another district, then announced in March that he would not seek re-election.

He began having second thoughts, though, especially when Rosen was so prominent in her support of the Vikings stadium bill she sponsored, which DeKruif didn’t like.

But now, DeKruif says he’s out. For real.

The Mankato Free Press reports that in a prepared statement:

… DeKruif said his decision was made after much thought and encouragement from area conservative activists.

“I stand proudly with Republican activists who believe elected officials must stick true to our conservative principles … Unfortunately, this legislative session Republicans shied away from putting the Freedom-to-Work amendment on the ballot, and some Republicans chose to support the plan for the Vikings stadium, which was not in the best interest of taxpayers of Minnesota.”
