Three-term GOP state Rep. Carol McFarlane of White Bear Lake said today she won’t challenge House Majority Leader Matt Dean in a primary.

The two Republicans were thrown together in the new House District 38B seat after redistricting.

McFarlane was first elected in 2006; the new boundaries put her in with Dean of Dellwood, who has served four terms in the House from the old 52B.

McFarlane had said about 80 percent of the new district was from her old 53B, and she indicated initially after losing the party endorsement to Dean that she might run anyway.

As late as mid-April, she said she hadn’t decided, but today she announced that she will not run in the primary.
