No DFL endorsement for Tom Rukavina seat on the Range

No DFL endorsement was granted Saturday in District 6B to replace the veteran DFL lawmaker.

Veteran Iron Range Rep. Tom Rukavina announced his retirement 10 days ago, which apparently didn’t give potential successors enough time to build a winning coalition for DFL Party endorsement.

At the District 6B convention on Saturday, Jason Metsa came close to getting the 60 percent needed for endorsement, but fell one vote short, reports the Duluth News Tribune.

Lorrie Janatopoulos also sought the endorsement.

It’s now likely that there will be a primary Aug. 14 to select the DFL candidate.

The convention did endorse incumbents state Rep. Carly Melin for the 6A seat and state Sen. David Tomassoni for the District 6 Senate seat.
