A search for a new vice president for University Services at the University of Minnesota has come up with three finalists for the job.

They are:

  • Tom Sorel, state commissioner of Transportation
  • Pam Wheelock, interim president of Blue Cross Blue Shield, former Minnesota Wild CFO and state commissioner of Finance under Gov. Jesse Ventura.
  • Mike Berthelsen, associate vice president of Facilities Management at the U of M.

The U describes the job like this:

Vice President for University Services is responsible for creating and sustaining a physical environment and service culture that supports and advances the teaching, research, and outreach missions of the University of Minnesota.

There are more than 3,000 employees in University Services departments, which include Auxiliary Services, Capital Planning and Project Management, Facilities Management, Public Safety, and University Health and Safety.

The new vice president will replace Kathy O’Brien, a former Minneapolis City Council member, who retires this month after 10 years as head of University Services.
