Gov. Mark Dayton has appointed Robert Docherty to be a judge in the state’s Fifth Judicial District, working out of New Ulm.

Docherty fills the position vacated when Judge John R. Rodenberg was appointed to the Minnesota Court of Appeals.

Docherty has been managing attorney in the Mankato office state Public Defender’s Office. He previously worked as a staff attorney for the Minnesota Court of Appeals.

The Fifth Judicial District includes Blue Earth, Brown, Cottonwood, Faribault, Jackson, Lincoln, Lyon, Martin, Murray, Nicollet, Nobles, Pipestone, Redwood, Rock and Watonwan counties.
