Services held for Rochester City Council President Dennis Hanson

Funeral services were held Saturday for Dennis “Denny” Hanson, the Rochester City Council president who died June 27 of a brain aneurysm.

Hanson, 57, was first elected to the council in 1999 and served as council president since 2004.

He is survived by wife, Linda, and six children.

He had filed to run for re-election in November, and officials said his name will stay on the ballot. There is one other candidate in the race, and write-in candidates are possible.

If Hanson wins posthumously, the seat would be declared vacant and the city would hold a special election.
