Statewide meetings planned on ‘No Net Loss of Wetlands’ goal

Four meetings around the state are scheduled by the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources to evaluate the state’s Wetland Conservation Act.

Gov. Mark Dayton has directed the board to work with the Pollution Control Agency and the departments of Natural Resources, Transportation, Agriculture and others on ways to “maintain no net loss of wetlands as a state goal … and to further advance the long-term protection and enhancement of Minnesota’s wetland resources.”

A report is due to the governor by Dec. 15. To prepare, the board is holding the meetings to get regional perspectives involving regional economies, wetland resources, and related natural resource or environmental conditions.

The meetings will be:

  • Thursday, 1 to 4 p.m. in Mankato at the Blue Earth County Library.
  • Oct. 10, 1 to 4 p.m. at the Bemidji City Hall.
  • Oct. 11, 1 to 4 p.m. in Chisholm at the Minnesota Discovery Center.
  • Oct. 16, 1 to 4 p.m. at the Shoreview Community Center.

The board will develop the report in October and November.
