Minnesota Historical Society library revamping hours, starting Dec. 1

Patrons wanted more morning hours at the Gale Family Library.

The Minnesota Historical Society’s Gale Family Library is changing its open hours starting Dec. 1, adding more morning hours on some weekdays and closing on Sundays.

Library officials said patrons had asked for more morning hours, and the Sunday closing is needed to save on staff costs.

 The new hours will be:

  • Tuesday, noon to 8 p.m.
  • Wednesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Closed Sundays and Mondays

That will be a net addition of two hours per week, to 36 hours per week. Currently the library is open 34 hours a week: noon to 8 p.m. on Tuesday; noon to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.

And officials say there will be no change of hours during the summer.
