An $11 million deal to buy and conserve 2,000 acres of land along the Mississippi River near Brainerd has been completed.

The Trust for Public Land is using $11 million in Legacy Funds to buy the land from Potlatch Corp.

The deal means the land, which includes nearly three miles of riverfront, won’t be sold for development.

Details of the agreement were announced in September.

Officials say the land is home to Blandings turtles and bald eagles and other species.

The trust notes that the land “… is a prime spot for visitors to enjoy hunting, fishing, cross-country skiing, wildlife viewing, hiking, snowmobiling, and canoeing.”
