DFL majority names top state Senate staff positions

Incoming state Senate Majority Leader Tom Bakk sent a note about staff selection for his DFL caucus:

Tom Kukielka will serve as Executive Director of the Committee on Rules and Administration as well as Chief of Staff, a position he has held with the DFL Caucus for the past two years. Kukielka was previously the Director of Senate Majority Research.

Christopher Runquist brings 13 years of experience at the Senate to the Legislative Director position. Runquist most recently served as the Director of Senate DFL Research, and was previously Committee Administrator of the Taxes Committee under Sen. Bakk.

Amos Briggs took over as the Senate DFL Caucus Communications Director during the 2012 Legislative Session and will continue in that role for the Majority Caucus. Briggs joined Sen. Bakk’s office in 2011 managing caucus legislative affairs, and previously served as the Legislative Assistant to the State Government Budget Division under former Sen. Don Betzold.

Julie Bayerl has worked for the past six legislative sessions in the office of Sen. Bakk, serving most recently as Executive Assistant to the DFL Caucus Leader and as Legislative Assistant to the Taxes Committee prior to that. Bayerl will now serve as a Leadership Assistant.

Megan Johnson has worked in Senate DFL Research since 2004 where she focused on issues relating to Judiciary and Public Safety, Local Government, and Elections. Johnson joins Sen. Bakk's office as a Leadership Assistant.

Alyssa Siems Roberson Featherstone joins the leadership staff from Senate DFL Research where she worked as the Legislative Assistant and covered agriculture issues. Siems Roberson Featherstone also served as the Field Director for the Senate DFL Caucus campaign in 2012.

Jacky Brustuen comes to Sen. Bakk’s office having previously worked in the office U.S. Senator Al Franken as his Deputy State Scheduler and Assistant to the State Director. Brustuen also served as Deputy Field Director for the Senate DFL Caucus campaign in 2012.
