Five highway projects around Minnesota are getting some extra aid from the state Department of Employment and Economic Development because they’ll help create new jobs.

Deed has awarded $15.7 million in grants through the Transportation Economic Development Program because the projects “will support growing industry and businesses, and improve the transportation network for all users.”

The state money will be leveraged with public and private funds to provide a total of $40 million for these projects:

  • Hwy. 5 in Waconia, $4.5 million from DEED, $11.1 million total cost
  • I-94 Seventh St. off ramp in Minneapolis, $6.8 million from DEED, $9.7 million total
  • Hwy. 30 right-turn lane in Slayton, $105,000 from DEED, $220,000 total
  • Hwys. 16 and 63 interchange work in Rochester, $2.2 million from DEED, $11.5 million total
  • Hwy. 169 access and rest area, LeSueur, $2 million from DEED, $7.5 million total

DEED Commissioner Katie Clark Sieben said:

“This latest round of funding will generate new jobs and economic development projects in Minnesota.”
