The West St. Paul City Council has hired Matt Fulton as city manager for the Dakota County city.
Fulton has been consulting for the city of Edina and Pine County, said the Pioneer Press. Until a year ago, he had been city manager of Coon Rapids, which is three times larger than West St. Paul. He’s also been city manager in New Brighton.
He left Coon Rapids last year after a performance review. He told the paper Thursday:
“There was a difference of vision on part of where I was and the council was. We just had to separate ways. … It happens in our business sometimes. It wasn’t anything negative or anything.”
West St. Paul’s former city manager, John Remkus, retired in 2011, and the council had offered the job to another candidate, but they couldn’t agree on a salary.
Sherrie Le, the assistant city manager and human resources director, has been serving as interim city manager and plans to return to her previous duties.
