Four Minnesota institutions of higher learning are included in a Top 25 list of LGBT-friendly colleges around the country.

The ranking, by Campus Pride, was based on policies affecting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students.

These Minnesota schools made the Top-25 list:

  • Carleton College
  • Macalester College
  • University of Minnesota, Duluth
  • University of Minnesota, Twin Cities

To get the rankings, 380 public and private colleges and universities answered more than 50 questions, which fit into eight categories:

  • LGBT Policy Inclusion
  • LGBT Support & Institutional Commitment
  • LGBT Academic Life
  • LGBT Student Life
  • LGBT Housing
  • LGBT Campus Safety
  • LGBT Counseling & Health
  • LGBT Recruitment and Retention Efforts

UMD Chancellor Lendley C. Black celebrated the high ranking:

“Our commitment to becoming a more inclusive campus is as strong as ever, and achievements like this one let us know we are making significant progress. This is especially important because it is aligned with our strategic goal to foster equity, diversity, and social justice.
