Gov. Dayton meets with striking Shakopee concrete workers

Gov. Mark Dayton met with striking concrete workers from the Cretex plant in Shakopee this morning.

It was a closed meeting in the governor’s Reception Room at the Capitol.

About 40 union workers at the plant have been on strike for three months, protesting a company plan to replace their pensions with a 401(k) plan.

The union workers say many construction company owners are urging Cretex management to end the strike, which started June 19. The employees had been working without a contract since the beginning of the year.

The Local 563 members have been very aggressive in drawing attention to their strike.

The company has said it is using  salaried staff and workers from its other 22 Midwest plants to continue production.
