Judge Ed Cleary named chief judge of state Appeals Court

Judge Ed Cleary has been named the chief judge of the Minnesota Court of Appeals.

Cleary was promoted by Gov. Mark Dayton to replace Chief Judge Matthew Johnson, who announced last week that he would not seek reappointment as Chief Judge when his term ends at the end of next month.

Dayton had appointed Cleary to the Appeals Court in 2011. Before that, Cleary had been a Ramsey County District judge.
